The Ghana Government have delivered the first badge of school uniforms to school pupils nation wide as part of its manifesto promise to Ghanaians. The pupils in Manchie Basic School in the Ga-West municipality have received their fare share of the national cake.

The school uniforms were distributed in the presence of the headteacher of the school Mr.Agbomadzi Manasseh, the school management committee chairman as well as the parent -teacher association chairman to ensure fairness and equity. In a short address by the headteacher of the school,he advised pupils to take extra care of the uniforms given to them and take their studies serious too.

In an interview with Madam Vivian Aklasu,a parent, she was very grateful to government and said that the distribution of the uniform is timely because majority of the pupils uniforms are completely worn so much so that they put on house attire to school which was not a healthy practise.

She added that the exercise will save parents some little money since the money they would have used to sew their wards uniforms could be channeled into other household emergencies. The Ashanti Region has received 19,310 uniforms under the Free School Uniforms programme by the President Atta Mills government. The region has also taken delivery of 7,001,796 exercises books, under the Exercise Books scheme.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Kofi Opoku-Manu, in an Independence Day address to school children at the Jubilee Park, disclosed that more books and uniforms would soon arrive for distribution in the region. He stressed the government's commitment to reducing the burden of parents in the education of their wards manifested in the said programmes.

The Regional Minister reminded school children that the future of the nation depended on them, hence the need for the government to devote maximum attention to the education of the youth, and groom and prepare them for the task ahead in life.
