Mobile Reporters

Our reporters under training are talented young Africans from communities that are underrepresented in mainstream media. They have the ambition to pursue a career in media but are limited by lack of work, financial resources and practical experience. During our practical training, trainees gain the necessary skills and work experience.

Upon successful completion of the training, the mobile reporters become Voices of Africa alumni. Our alumni network was initiated to foster continuous learning and to stimulate knowledge sharing as former trainees continue to work as freelance community reporters. As an alumni, reporters still own their free publishing space and are entitled to new updates of our training material. Voices of Africa Media Foundation tries to link alumni reporters to clients to promote sustainability of the training.

Meet Peris Wairimu Wanjohi "I joined the Voices of Africa mobile reporting training in October 2008. Since then my life has never been the same again.I have learnt how to approach people for interviews, how to make videos and how to write reports. I was invited to fly to the Netherlands to attend Deutsche Welle's Global Media Forum in Bonn, Germany. We not only received an award for the training project, but I also had the chance to interact with mobile reporter colleagues from Ghana and Cameroon and other reporters from all over the world. I would like to thank Voices of Africa Media Foundation for giving me this opportunity."
