Music from the Slum

Slum_Music_You_Tube.jpgMusic From the Slum is a series of music videos about issues that matter in slum communities. The music and the images are performed, recorded, filmed and edited by young people from these slums. Organized by local Community Media Houses. By supporting this project you are supporting the entire community.

A Community Media House is a centre in a slum area where young talented Africans, born and raised in slums, are trained to become a reporter, a filmer or an editor. They bring out real life stories from African slums that they sell to a world wide audience.

They offer a platform for musicians and artists. In this way the Community Media House becomes a sustainable source of income for these youngsters.

The local Community Media House is deeply rooted in the community and the videos that are produced are regularly shown to the local people.

The local Community Media House project is an initiative of the Voices of Africa Media Foundation: http://www.voamf.org
